Why Start Blogging

Why Start Blogging

Well – the first question is – what stopped me.

Friends who know me know this – I have never been active on social media. It wasn’t until recently that I get a profile picture for my Instagram. I thought I was too cool for that. But, the real reason is I am actually afraid of what people think of me. I am worried that people would think.

Does he think he is handsome posting this picture? What is he trying to gain from that (in Cantonese : 條友搏乜)? Or simply, a comment that "this is stupid".

Then, I decide (and realise) - actually no one really spend too much thoughts on me. No one would care if I start a blog. Not until I come up with something interesting enough to grab their attention (which I hope I could, someday).

There is a small part of me who wants to be a writer. I vividly remember writing a story about a monkey escaping a zoo with a magic carpet in junior secondary school which won me a small prize and was published on the school magazine. That's probably is one of the most glorious moment in my 30-year-life. (That's sad - I know.)

Yet, a little sound in my head and the pressure of life keep telling me that that's IMPOSSIBLE.
"Where do you get the time to write?"
"You are not talented - you have never written anything good" (which is obviously not true - see the monkey story?)
"What are you going to write about? No one is interested. "

Honestly, I do not have a good answer to some of those questions. However, I could experiment. I could literally write on anything. It could be self-reflection. It could be the latest technology I come across. I could write short stories. This is my place where I could share everything. At least, this is a good place to organise my thoughts. If I work hard and smart enough, and am fortunate enough, I might meet someone in this infinite internet who is interested in my work.

I wholeheartedly invite you - who are reading this blog to join this journey with me. Maybe, just maybe, you are witnessing the start of a writing career.
