Take Care of Yourself in this Punishing World
Most of you should have heard of Rick and Morty, the unconventional adventure story of.. well, Rick and Morty.
In one of the episodes, Rick, the almost invincible genius grandpa in the show, turned into a mixture of cucumber and mouse, and went to visit a psychotherapist with his family. (This makes perfect sense in the Rick and Morty universe. Trust me. )
The therapist, Ms. Wong said this,
"Rick, the only connection between your unquestionable intelligence and the sickness destroying your family is that everyone in your family, you included, use intelligence to justify sickness.
I have no doubt that you would be bored senseless by therapy, the same way I'm bored when I brush my teeth and wipe my ass, because the thing about repairing, maintaining, and cleaning is; it's not an adventure. There's no way to do it so wrong you might die. It's just work, and the bottom line is some people are okay going to work, and some people, well, some people would rather die. Each of us gets to choose."
Life is difficult and complicated. There is no doubt to that. Most of us have to work for a living. Handling relationships, work and personal, is tiring. We have responsibilities, mortgages and utility bills. We contemplate about the purposes of our life and constantly get lost. Injustices are everywhere. A war may be looming (and is actually happening somewhere). The list goes on and on. If there is one truth about life - it is not easy.
However, before you tackle the overwhelming world, let's first take care of yourself. It may not be glamorous, unlike getting a company listed or building the next unicorn company. Yet, whether you are Elon Musk or.. you, you need to be able to take care of yourself, mentally and physically. Otherwise, you are doomed to get sick. It would then be too late to understand that the cliche - "Health is your most crucial wealth.
No matter how busy I am, I try my best to eat properly, exercise regularly, and sleep disciplinarily. Sometimes, life is as simple as that. However, complicated beings like us at times fail to do so. You are never too busy to eat, exercise, or sleep. You prioritze other matters over self-care. And by doing so, you choose not to take care of yourself properly.
That's it for today. Please share this with a friend who need a reminder to take care of himself/herself. Also, feel free to share below (or text me) about the difficulties you are facing. Talking to someone is a great way to take care of yourself too.
