See you Soon, My Friend

Having spent a few years in Taiwan, I am lucky enough to make a few very good friends. Rather sadly, one of them is going to California to pursue his dream of becoming a US lawyer.

As a horrible friend, I did not get him anything. I hope this blog serves better than a card, for it is stored in the vast expanse of the immortal internet, beyond borders and time.

Our friendship began at my old firm. (The first time we met for lunch with another buddy, I told him I had to leave early because I needed to take a nap.) We do not have a lot in common. But we spent a lot of time in the pantry to eat and talk, and not working.

To me, you are very easy to talk with and are not too serious about your works (which I find an excellent trait). Even after leaving the firm, we almost meet weekly for lunch or dinner or drinks, which I would say is highly uncommon in the adult world (for a non-romantic relationship at least). After all, time is the most invaluable assets one have. I am glad we keep that up.

These meet ups and meaningful social connections keep me sane from all the craziness in the world. Thanks for being such a good listener and a generous person.

Leaving Hong Kong almost three years ago, I said good bye to a lot of my friends in Hong Kong. (Still, saying goodbye is not any easier.) I could only meet them once or twice a year. While our lives progressed and we are building our own family, career and pursuing our goals, whenever we reunite, it's as if time stood still—the familiar jokes and the bond unchanged.

I am almost sure that will be the case for us. (Just do not forget me when you become a successful lawyer and get crazily rich.)

Well - all the best man. Seriously, I wish you every bit of success. Enjoy the journey and get what you want. See you soon, in Taiwan, the States, Canada, or somewhere else in the world.
