Priority
Life is difficult. Everything comes at you at the same time.
Your boss says there is a deadline for your project. Your girlfriends says she wants a trip to Japan (while your mum wants a trip to Thailand). Your dog gets sick. You haven’t slept properly for an entire week. And your bank account has just hit a new low.
I try my best to make most of my decisions based on this particular priority: -
1. Health
2. Family
3. Dobby (yes, my dog is above my career)
4. Career
5. Money
The above priority looks pretty self-explanatory. However, as most things in life, it’s easier said than done though.
When your boss asks you to work over the weekend when you have a family trip planned for three months. Do you burn an all-nighter? (which is not the best idea for your health to finish your task at work)
When your dog look at you with her puppy eyes, asking you not to go to office. What do you do? Okay, I admit – most of the time - I go to the office instead of walking my dog. But still, you get the idea. (By the way, do you realise that most of the conflicts come with work? Pick your career, or job, carefully).
Life is all about compromise and priorities. It is tough, but you have to make choices. Otherwise, people make your choices and you will running like a hamster in a hamster wheel.
One of my favorite quotes by Essentialism.com:
"Once you become an Essentialist, you will find that you aren’t like everybody else. When other people are saying yes, you find yourself saying no.
When other people are doing, you will find yourself thinking.
When other people are speaking, you will find yourself listening.
When other people are in the spotlight, looking for attention, you will find yourself waiting on the sidelines until it is time to shine.
When other people are padding their resumes and building out LinkedIn profiles, you’ll be building a career of meaning.
When people are complaining or bragging about how busy they are, you will just be smiling sympathetically, unable to relate.
When other people are living a life of stress and chaos, you will be living a life of impact and fulfillment.”
By pursuing the right priorities, there is a slight chance that, we humble human could live a life of impact and fulfillment.
