New (Temporary) Members of the Family
My parents are recently fostering two puppies, Belle and Bear.
There are always uncivilized bastards who abuse, abandon, mistreat, or even eat dogs and cats. Fortunately, there are also angels, who work tirelessly to rescue puppies in the country area of Taiwan. They then send the dogs to the city areas, where people generally treat dogs better, for adoption. Before these cute puppies are adopted by the life-long family, they go to the vet, get cleaned and arrive at the foster family.
That's why they are now at my parents' place.
Thees puppies require round-the-clock attention. My dad and mum are now feeding these puppies three times a day. Because they are not trained to go to toilet yet, they are always covered with pee and feaces, and my parents have to clean them. They are almost spending the entire day with them, playing with them and teaching them how to "interview" when they interact with their potential future owner. This is important to give the puppies their first experience in living with human, and give them trust that humans are not that bad (which may be a misconception, but is a belief necessary for human and dogs to live in this society).
This make me more grateful to spend time with Dobby, my dog. Sometimes you need to go through the whole process to gain perspective. I realize that the (relatively) well-mannered and adjusted nature of Dobby is not a mere coincidence, but a result of the collective effort made by many individuals to rescue, nurture, and teach her. When Dobby first arrived at my home, she already knew how to use the designated spot for toileting and displayed no unreasonably fear towards people. This is a testament to the tremendous amount of care and love she received.
This is not an understatement that my parents have changed two lives. Because they are willing to sacrifice part of their apartment and hours sleeping time, this has given these two puppies a chance to find forever homes in Taipei, rather than enduring the tough life of a stray dog in the countryside. They could only spend a very limited time with the dog, just to send them to hopefully loving families, and say a tough goodbye to these cute puppies. This is selfless and noble behaviour epitomizing humanity.
There are good seeds and bad seeds within us. Give the good ones water, sun and nutrient so that they could outgrow the bad seeds. My parents are setting perfect example in doing goods the best they can, they change lives.
