The Power of Keeping Promises - Consistently Blogging for 21 Days
Yesterday, I had barbecue with a friend who I look up to. All excited, I told him about my plan to step up my game in the social media.
He expressed his concerns about the effort involved and the potential lack of tangible benefits.
He is not the only one. I myself question the reasons for blogging (and social media) and whether the effort was worth it. That's why I have not done it in all the years. To me, social media is daunting and tiring. It can feel like I'm talking to myself, shouting into the void like an attention seeker.
I gather myself and thought of the reasons to continue blogging.
A promise to myself
The very first reason is that I have made a promise to myself that I will blog consistently for 21 days. I need to be capable of sticking to my commitments, big or small. Otherwise, how could I believe in myself, and have others believe in me. To me, keeping a promise to myself is critical to my confidence. This itself is a good enough reason to continue, at least for another 20 days.
Organising my Thoughts, Ideas, and Learning New Stuff
Are you the type of person who need to write on a notebook to think properly? 村上春樹 once said that he writes, because this is the only way he could think. It's the same for me.
It's good to write on a blog. It's even better to put it out there, knowing that someone (no matter how small the audience) will read into it. So my writing better makes sense. This help me develop a greater sense of clarity and focus.
To write, I need to research and look inside myself and research outside of the already possessed knowledge. In this week, I have already learnt something about GPT4 and robot lawyer, which I would not if I didn't start this blog.
Connecting and Resonating with Someone
I am confident in myself, that I have something valuable to share. Using my old law firm's saying, I could create value. This time not to the rich client who could hire a lawyer, but to my reader. Maybe my blog will resonate with someone and make a positive impact, even if it's just a small one. It could be an encouragement for the reader to take a step he or she never dares to. It could be a thought provoked. It could be an idea instilled.
Lastly, I'd be lying if I say I have never imagined of turning my blog into a source of income someday. That said, let's do it step my step. First, make good contents, engage the audience I have, and gradually grow it. (If anyone has any tips on social media, I would love to hear about it.)
Life is fun, because of the uncertainties. There is no guarantee of success. The only way to know if to put in your time and effort, and offer your best.
Leave a comment and tell me what topics you'd like me to cover in future posts. (Shit. This blog don't have a comment section yet. I actually need to learn how to do it. You could email me or send me a message. All readers are friends and families at this stage.)
Thanks for reading my friend. See you again tomorrow!
